Minimalism..
Iam guessing everybody have heard about the new trend of minimalism and even tidying methods, Marie Kondo , sparkling joy etc.
Some trips ago a book blinked to me at a book store in Vienna.
Being raised by a father that is just finding a use for the most useless things so he can keep them minimalism was always sounded to me like a utopia or maybe a crazy place to be.
Having moved 12 times appartments, living in 3 different countries with just a backpack or a luggage and some years later my mind set changed drastically.
When i had to transfer all my things again out of my fathers basement i didnt even remember half of the things and for sure i didnt miss most of them so i really start wondering if i actually needed all those things to begin with.
How many things i was keeping just because somebody bought them for me without really using them and how many things i have bought to people that they dont use?
All those trips and souvenirs?
Minimalism doesnt have to be hardcore with 2 plates and 1 spoon, it just has to suit to the individual in a way that works for him.
So i came up to some simple rules which have helped me a lot to discard more easily things, situations, emotions of guilt.
1) 99% of the cases iam buying experiences as gifts, manicure- massage-spa etc.
2) i love buying clothes from second hand and giving mine away or exchange them or sell them. Its like a treasure hunting and you can change clothes and style as often as you want. (you dont have to pay that one time wedding dress a whole fortune!) Plus, i love to see my friends enjoying my clothes.
3) When i havent used something for more than 6 months i am seriously thinking to throw it away or give it to someone who can use it.
4) When iam travelling in other countries and i want to bring something back to my loved ones i usually decide to go for something edible or drinkable so they can both have a taste of where i was and not having to keep a million little things from countries that they havent been at.
5) When in occassions like christenings and weddings i prefer giving money instead of buying something so the hosts can use it any way they like and need.
6) Before i buy something iam asking my self if it going to make me somehow happier and if i need it really.
Less is more...More freedom to move , more money, more guilt free living, more hapiness to the people around us..
